How to reuse: old scale pans

I'm normally a late riser but for one of my most beloved occupations even I can defeat my weaker self.  Strolling through the fleamarkets of Graz on cold sunday mornings will always cheer me up and is my perfect start in the day. One thing I've seen like a hundred times, seeming to be on every third table, are old scale pans. Glowing in an old gold, with little stains and beautiful details they have always cought my eye, so I decided to reuse them: As hanging flower pots.

The only thing you need is a hook to secure them on your ceiling, but you can also use your curtain rail or every other imaginable thing. For example  I simply used the hook of my Murphy Table, now it doesn't seem so useless anymore ;)

As you can see, it is amazingly easy to reuse old stuff that seem useless to other. You can give them a second life, and have a well-priced, unique alternative to the ordinary store bought stuff, all at the same time. You just have to go through life with open eyes and feed your creativity. Don't just buy everything the media tells you to, rethink before you throw away, reuse stuff and the mother earth will love you for it <3

Consistent with yesterday's post hier a little recipe for all who like chocolate but have bad conscience because of all that sugar – this muesli is actually pretty healthy (and tastes goooooood :)
Das brauchst du:

* Einen kräftigen Schuss Hafermilch (optional)

* 4 EL große Haferflocken
* 2 EL Leinsamen
* 2 EL Buchweizen

For two people (or a very hungry one ;)

* 2 Bananas
* 1 1/2 tbsp raw cocoa
* Oat Milk (optional)

* 4 tbsp oats
* 2 tbsp flax seeds
* 2 tbsp buckwheat

So wird's gemacht:

1. Mix bananas, cocoa and oat milk together. Put the cream into a glass and add all the other ingredients. Stir and wait for a few hours if you want it creamy; eat it immediately if you like it more crunchy ;)

Sustainable Sunday: Yes, I am guilty

Yes, I was the one who ate the banana today in the morning, together with the two kiwis and the orange.
I was the one who bought frozen berries for making a blueberry smoothie with coconut milk.
I was also the one who killed the pomegranate to enjoy the sweet taste of the south.
Yes, I am guilty.

Always talking about what you should do and what you shouldn't do. Everyone does it, we do it. But today I want to start right here. With me.

I don't eat meat or fish and I refuse cakes with gelatin. I'm thinking a lot about what I eat. Especially where my food comes from, if it is organic or not. I'm sure that I pay more for my food than many of my friends do just for getting quality. And I'm trying to help other people to do so, with this blog for example.

But still, I want to be honest. I'm not a saint, nobody is. This recent post from DariaDaria made me think and gave me the idea – no, the push – for this post. So I wanted to tell the truth and to make it clear:
Also I buy sometimes electronic stuff produced in China. Also I have pants for twenty Euros and bras for ten. Also I eat bananas or drink orange juice.

What I want to say is that I don't write this post or this entire blog because I am good and there is so much bad outside. I know that I could do so much more for "a better world and planet" and that I have blotted my copybook.

BUT. I made a start for me. And I want to encourage you to do the same. To think of where the stuff you eat comes from. To reduce your buying habits a little bit and start getting more second hand or fair-trade. These are just little steps, but if everyone does them, they grow and grow.

We can do it together :)

DIY Berry Tunic

Sewing is something beautiful. You could make whatever you want and in the end the solution is better than anything bought. Today I want to show you a very very easy project I really like. You just need two pieces of fabric which you sew together. It won't take you longer than an hour!
Das brauchst du:
* Stoff (ich hab Samt genommen), etwa 1 1/2 Meter
* Band oder Gürtel
* Nähmaschine, Stecknadeln, Faden, Schere, Kreide
* T-Shirt für die Maße
* Fabric (I took velvet), about 1 1/2 meter
* Ribbon or belt
* Sewing Machine, Pins, Thread, Scissors, Chalk
* T-Shirt for measure

So wird's gemacht:

1. Lay the shirt on the fabric. With the chalk draw sleeves (the same sleeves as your shirt has). Also, draw the sides of your tunic. They should be as long and as wide as you want your tunic to be.
2. Look at this picture. If your drawing looks like my pieces you can cut it out. Lay it on the fabric and draw exactly the same piece again. Cut it out.
3. Cut out a neckline from the back piece.
4. Pin the two pieces together. If everything looks fine, sew them together. Be careful to leave the sleeves, the bottom side and the neckline out. ;)
5. Now try it on and correct if you want. Also, cut out the neckline of the front part. If you want to cast the edges, do it now. I left this out, because the velvet is fine like that.
6. If you wear your tunic, you can take a ribbon as a belt or you take a finish one. Yeey, you've done it!

Behind the Scenes: February Lookbook Shooting

Quick view on our last photo shooting. We had a lot of fun simulating being at a jolly party on a Sunday morning – with sparkling wine and looots of sweets. Afterwards we were all sick of all the food we ate – but you nearly can't get enough of vegan donuts and sugared cupcakes ;)
The "official" lookbook photos will follow soon. Until this party and the semester end: Good luck for all your exams and everything else you have to do!

DIY Murphy Table

Making the most out of a small place is a problem that makes a lot of brains fry. As my apartment is only 27 m2 I wanted to take adventage of every single one of it. It took me a lot of thinking time, but finally I came up with a solution for my little problem: The best way to do it, is to use furniture with multiple features, or, even better, build yourself something that can easly disappear and change into something else. Sounds like magic? Believe me it may looks like it, but it is something you can easly craft yourself. So let me introduce to you: The Murphy Table!

 Was brauchst du?

* Tischplatte (beliebige Größe)
* hier: altes Nähmaschinengestell (alternativ: jedes nur denkbare andere Untergestell, der Fantasie sind keine Grenzen gesetzt, es sollte jedoch ca normale Tischhöhe haben, also in etwas 75cm)
* Zwei Werfgehänge; hier: Typ 62, 250x35 mm (alternativ: Scharnier)
* Sturmhaken mit Öse; hier: 120x5,8 mm
* Holzschrauben
* Schrauben + passende Mauerdübel

What you need:

* table top (optional size)
* old sewing machine stand (alternativ: any other imaginable stand, simply free your mind and get creative, but it should have normal table height which is approx. 75 cm)
* Two ornamental strap hinges (be sure that they are big enough to carry the weight)
* Hook & Eye
* Woodscrews
* Screws + wall dowels
Wie wirds gemacht?

1.) Untergestell finden

1.) Find a suitable stand

For my table I used an old sewing machine stand as a lower frame. I'm totally in love with the black surface and the beautiful ornamental decorations, it really gives the whole thing an industrial touch that I absolutely adore. However, these stands are not availabe ten a penny.  I suggest you to search the fleamarket, ebay or your own attic, that's most of the time where all the treasures are hidden.

You can also use any other imaginable stand for this table, only the sky's the limit ;) For example you can use old wooden boxes or you can build yourself an own stand out of wood. The only important thing is that the lower frame is approx. 75 cm high. It is also pretty useful if you can easily put your stand away (mine has rolls, that makes it really easy)

2.) Secure the table top onto the wall

To make sure that your table will not totter and has a secure stand, so you can easily fold it away afterwards, you need to fix it to the wall. Therefore you just have to put your table top on your lower frame, on the side where the plate touches the wall you are going to drill the holes. Simply take your ornamental strap hinges, measure the middle of your table width and go one quarter of the whole width back, one time to the right, one time to the left. Hold your hinges onto these marks and mark where you'll drill the wholes into your wall later. Now take a few woodscrews and fix the hinges onto the table.

As a next step you have to drill the holes into the wall. I used a hammer drill to do it. Please make sure that there are no water pipes or power supply lines in this part of the wall, or if the wall is maybe not thick enough to carry the weight. Furthermore don't drill if there's a chimney in the wall!

As soon as your holes are in the wall, put the wall dowels in and fix your hinges onto it. The important thing is that the screws and the dowels are the same diameter, otherwise your connection won't be safe.

Now your table top is securely fixed to the wall, it won't totter anymore and you can easily fold it away.

3.) Fasten the hook onto the wall and the eye onto the table

So that your table top will stay on the wall when you fold it away you have to fasten the hook to the wall, and the eye to the underside of your table as a next step.

First you have to fix the eye to the underside. Just measure the middle of the front side of the underside of the table and secure it with two screws. Now fold the plate to the wall, take the hook, hitch it to the eye and mark where you have to drill the wholes in the wall. Fold your plate away again, and fix the hook on the marked spot.

 4.) Viel Freude damit!

4.) I hope you enjoy it!

As you can see, it's really as simple as I told you. A small space hasn't to seem small too, make the most out of it and be happy with it! Now you are prepared for the next time you need a little more space for a party or a sleepover.

You can also decorate the underside of your table and you'll have a beautiful picture on the wall. I haven't had the time to paint mine yet, but I'm sure I will do it as soon as possible! :)

Sustainable Sunday: Let it grow

You want to breath new life into your flat? It seems dead and lifeless? The most important thing for me in a room are plants. The greener the better, no matter how much place left for other stuff. If I could I would crop everything, no matter if it's an old shoe or a cup for tea. A little inspiration.
Warum Pflanzen pflanzen?

Why to plant plants? The silent, green flat mates aren't only beautiful, but also wonderful air freshener! Better than any perfumes and air deodorants (also healthier and they smell better). If you do it right, plants have also a long life time.

It's easy to plant something. You just have to put some soil in a cup, put the crop on it and fill it up with soil.
To be honest: The most difficult thing is to keep the plant alive. Everyone who tried it, will know that.

Plants need light and water. But not too much water, otherwise it may start to rot. It would be best to use pots with holes on the bottom – or to bore one by yourself so that excessive water can go away. If you can't do that for any reason, you have to be super careful to not oversaturate the soil with water. It's the same as always: More is not better, too much is bad.

The best method to keep your plants alive is to feel if the soil is dry or wet. Is it dry, add a little bit water – but be careful, if I say "a little bit", I mean a little bit. It's better to water it the next day again than to let it drown. And remember: Plants are creatures, they live. Like animals. No animal survives three weeks of holidays alone, no matter how much water you gave them before.

The most important tip is still: Don't be sad if something goes wrong. Sometimes plants die, sometimes even without a visible reason. If there is a visible reason: Do it better next time and don't give up.

Coconut-Berry-Milk

Fruits are a big part of my daily diet. They are sweet, but not too sweet and taste amazing. The best thing are berries in winter that you froze in summer. Perfect little sunbeam for the cold days – and together with coconut moodlifter number one.
Das wird gebraucht:

* 1 kleine Tasse gefrorene Beeren vom Sommer
* 1 kleine Tasse Reismilch
* 1 kleine Tasse Kokosmilch

* 1 small cup Berries from summer
* 1 small cup Rice milk
* 1 small cup Coconut milk

So wird's gemacht:

1. Einfach alle Zutaten vermixen und genießen :)

1. Simply put all ingredients together, mix until smooth and enjoy! :)
