How to reuse: Old Glass Bottles

Wir kaufen soweit es geht, soweit das möglich ist, nur Getränke, die in Glasflaschen abgefüllt sind. Manche davon sind leider keine Pfandflaschen, dadurch haben sich bei uns schon kleine Anhäufungen an Flaschen gebildet bei denen wir nicht genau wissen, was wir mit ihnen anfangen sollen. Wenn es euch da ähnlich geht wie uns, haben wir heute eine Idee für euch: How to reuse: Old Glas Bottles. Besonders schön wird dieses Projekt mit Tequila-, oder Rumflaschen, aber auch alte Vodkaflaschen oder Essiggläser eigenen sich gut dafür.

Whenever we can we buy our drinks in glassbottles. Sadly not all of them are recyclable, that's why we came up with an idea how to reuse them. Old alcohol bottels are a good base for this reuse-project beacuse they often have cool prints on them and have this grunge touch, but basically every glass bottle will do the job :)

Dieses Projekt ist ganz einfach, wie bei all unseren anderen How-to-Resuse-Projekten müsst ihr hier nichts nähen, schneiden oder schrauben. Nehmt einfach eine Kerze die dem Durchmesser eures Flaschenhalses entspricht und steckt sie in den Hals. Nun könnt ihr sie anzünden und schon könnt ihr euch an eurem neuen Kerzenständer erfreuen!

This project is like every other of our How-to-reuse-projects incredibly easy and you don't need to have mechanical skills to do it. Simply take a candles which has the same diameter as your bottleneck and put it together. Now you can light it and rejoice in your new, awesome candleholder. Yes, it's really that simple!

Ich hab meinen Kerzenständer auf meine Terrasse gestellt, ich finde er macht sich dort richtig gut! Vor allem am Abend verbreitet er eine super Stimmung und wunderschönes Licht. Viel Spaß beim Ausprobieren!

I put mine on my balcony table, and I have to admit I really love it! Especially on warm summer night this candleholder looks super awesome and spreads a soft and warm light. Have fun and try it out!

IKEA Hack: Country Flower Stool

Einen Hocker von IKEA kann sich jeder in die Wohnung stellen, aber mit unserem IKEA-Hack könnt ihr ganz einfach diesen hölzernen Beistelltisch in einen individuellen Hocker mit Countryflair verwandeln. Er ist super bequem und ein richtiger Eye-Catcher, und eines versprech ich euch, es wird nie jemand auch nur im Entferntesten erwarten dass in diesem außergewöhnlichen Projekt eigentlich ein langweiliger IKEA-Hocker steckt.

I guess nearly everybody has IKEA-furniture in his or her apartement, that makes it hard to be individual when using this kind of fitments. That's why we have a IKEA-Hack for you. We will show you how to turn this boring wooden side table into an amazing and outstanding stool with a countryflair. And I promise you, nobody will ever imagine that you started this amazing project with a simple IKEA side table.

 Du brauchst:

*Oddvar
*Weißen Lack
*Blumenstoff (ich hab meinen vom Happy Home in Graz)
*Schaumstoff
*Tackermaschine

You need:

*Oddvar 
*white paint
*floral fabric (I got mine at the Happy Home in Graz)
*foam
*staple gun

Wie wirds gemacht? 

1.) Streiche alle Teile (bis auf die Sitzfläche) deines Hockers weiß an, lass das ganze ordentlich trocknen.

2.) Baue den Hocker laut Anleitung zusammen, schraub jedoch die Sitzfläche noch nicht an.

3.) Richte dir ein Stück Schaumstoff her das die gleichen Maße wie die Sitzfläche des Hockers hat, in diesem Fall wären das 33*33 cm.

4.) Leg den Schaumstoff auf die Sitzfläche, dreh das ganze um, sodass nun der Schaumstoff unter der Holzfläche liegt.

5.) Nimm nun den Stoff und beginne die Sitzfläche + den Schaumstoff damit zu beziehen, nimm dafür eine Tackermaschine damit der Stoff auf ordentlich befestigt ist.

6.) Schraube deine neu überzogene Sitzfläche mit dem Untergstell dein Hockers zusammen, und schon bist du fertig!

7.) Ja, so einfach geht das! Probiert es doch einfach aus. Viel Spaß damit! :)

How to do it:

1.) Paint all pieces of the stool, exept the seating, with white paint, and let it dry.

2.) Build together the stool as the instruction tells you, but don't secure the seating yet.

3.) Take a piece of foam (should be 33*33 cm in this project).

4.) Put it on the seating and turn the whole thing so that the foam is under the wooden part.

5.) Take the floral fabric and begin to cover the seating plus the foam with it, use a staple gun.

6.) Fix your new seating to the rest of the stool, and you are done with this project!

7.) Yes, it's really that simple, just try it! :)

DIY Globe Coffee Table

Ich glaube jeder hat den Traum einmal die Welt zu bereisen. Ich jedenfalls kann es kaum mehr erwarten, und träum daher gern von fernen Ländern und entlegenen Gewässern. Da aber natürlich nicht jeder täglich um den Globus jetten kann, zeig ich euch heute ein DIY mit dem ihr euch unsere schöne Mutter Erde einfach in die eigene Wohnung holen könnt. Tag für Tag um die Welt reisen ist somit kein Problem mehr, auch wenn es nur in den eigenen vier Wänden passiert.

Every now and then I'm sure, everybody is caught in a daydream of travelling the world. I for myself would love to bag my packs, jump on the next train and start my big journey. However, unfortunately not everybody is able to fulfill this big dream of oneself, but don't worry I have a little consolation for you. Today I'll show you a DIY which brings mother earth directly into the privacy of your home. Travelling the world on daily basis? No problem anymore, even if it's just around your personal DIY Globe Coffee Table.

Ich will ehrlich zu euch sein, dieses DIY geht nicht so einfach von der Hand wie beispielsweise unser DIY Stump Side Table oder unsere DIY Honeycomb Shelves. Aber wenn ihr euch ein bisschen dahinter klemmt werdet ihr am Ende ein herausragendes, einzigartiges Stück in eurer Wohnung haben um das euch sicher jeder beneiden wird.

Bei den meisten meiner Projekte verwende ich Dinge die ich schon zuhause habe, ich denke es ist wichtig Sachen zu nutzen die bereits vorhanden sind, diese auf- und auch zu verwerten. Deswegen habe ich bei meinem Globe Coffee Table auch Teile verwendet die vielleicht nicht eins zu eins genau so zu bekommen sind. Aber ich weiß ihr seid super und kreativ, deswegen appellier ich hier an euch und eure schönen Köpfe: Werdet euch bewusst was ihr zuhause habt und wie ihr es für dieses Projekt verwenden könnt, treibt eure Gehirne auf Hochtouren, ich bin sicher ihr schafft das! :) Aber natürlich werde ich mich auch hinter die Tastatur klemmen und das Internet nach möglichen Alternativen durchsuchen. Wie auch immer ihr das Projekt löst, ich bin mir sicher es wird großartig werden!

I have to be honest with you, this DIY is definitely not a piece of cake, and it's sure much more effort than for example our DIY Stump Side Table or our DIY Honeycomb Shelves. But I promise, if you stick to it, you'll have an  unique, outstanding piece of furniture that will all your friends go green with envy. 

For the most of my projects I am using stuff that I already have at home, it's important for me to use things that are already here and to reuse and upcycle them (and it's also a lot cheaper if you don't have to buy everything). Therefore I used a lot of elements in my project which are not one-to-one availabe at every local hardware store. But I know you are awesome and also extremely creative, that's why I am appealing to your pretty minds: Be aware of the things you already have at home and how to use them in this project, get your brains up to speed, you can do it! :) As a little help I'll be searching the internet for alternatives and possible standby facilities. However you gonna get this project done, I'm sure it will turn out great!

Was ihr benötigt:

*ein stabiles Untergestell

ich habe verwendet: eine runde Platte aus Metall mit einem Durchmesser von 60 cm mit einem Loch mit Gewinde in der Mitte

mögliche Alternativen: 

- runde Holzplatte verwenden und dann mit Metalllack lackieren (möglicherweise als Tischplatte zu kaufen, oder selber zuschneiden)

- Standplatte einer Kleiderpuppe 

- Runde Tischplatte aus Metall

*Rohr - 45 cm lang, 4 cm Durchmesser

*Ring - um den Globus auf halber Höhe zu halten (entweder aus Metall oder Holz)

*Weltkugel eines alten Globus (Findet ihr ganz sicher auf dem Flohmarkt, oder Willhaben)

*Auflage für die Tischplatte

ich habe verwendet: Teil des Antriebs einer alten Waschmaschine, Durchmesser 40 cm

What you need:

*a stable lower frame 

I used: a round, metallic plate - 60 cm diameter, with a round hole with a srew thread in the middle

Possible alternatives: 

- round, wooden plate (you can paint it with metallic paint to make it look like metal), cut it by yourself or buy a round tabletop

- plate where a mannequin stands on 

- round, metal tabletop

*tube - 45 cm, 5 cm diameter 

*loop - to secure the globe at half height (either out of wood or metal)

*old globe 

*holding for the tabletop 

I used: part of the impetus of an old washing machine - 40 cm diameter

possible alternatives: 

- old wheel 

- round plate (if wooden, paint it with metal paint)

- seating of a round stool 

*adhesive felt studs 

1.) Such dir alle deine Teile zusammen

Der wichtigste und warscheinlich auch schwierigste Part bei diesem Projekt ist es die ganzen Teile zu finden. Sobald du sie jedoch auf einem Haufen zusammen hast geht alles sehr schnell.

2.) Baue das Untergestell zusammen

 Metall:

Wenn du den Tisch so wie ich aus Metall machst ist das ganze recht einfach. Zuerst beginnst du damit die Globuskugel auf dem Rohr zu befestigen. Dafür nimmst du den Ring und verschweißt ihn auf ca. 10 cm Höhe mit dem Rohr. Danach ziehst du vorsichtig die Plastikhalterung des Globus ob und unten heraus bis du nur mehr die Kugel in den Händen hast. Nun kannst du das Rohr ganz einfach durch die obere und untere Öffnung des Globus schieben und schon hält deine schöne Installation.

Dein Rohr sollte auf der Unterseite ein Gewinde haben, somit kannst du es ganz einfach in das Loch in der Bodenplatte schrauben. Und voila, schon hast du das Untergestell fertig!

Holz:

Wenn du dein Untergestell aus Holz baust musst du dir als erstes einen Holzring suchen, diesem verleimst du dann ca. auf einer Höhe von 10 cm mit einem runden Holzstab der ca 45 cm hoch ist. Sobald das ganze trocken ist, nimm deine Globuskugel und schieb ihn auf den Stab. Schon müsste der erste Teil deines Projektes halten. Als nächstes musst du in die runde Platte die du als unterste Platte nimmst ein Loch mit dem Durchmesser des Stabes schneiden. Sobald du das getan hast kannst du einfach dem Stab mit der Platte zusammenleimen. Als letzten Schritt kannst du das ganze noch mit Metalllack lackieren, dadurch bekommst es einen industriellen Touch.

1.) Get all your stuff together 

Probably the most complex part of this project is to get all the pieces together. However, as soon as you've done it, everything else will be a breeze. 

2.) Build your lower frame 

Metal:

If you make your lower frame out of metal like I did you just have a few steps to do. First begin with fixing the globe to the pipe. Therefor you have to take your metal ring and heat-seal it to the pipe, approximately in 10 cm height. As a next step you have to remove the plastic holding from the globe, if you have done this you can put the pipe trough the globe and the first part of your lower frame will already be finished. 

Your pipe should have a thread on the bottom side, so you can easily bolt it down to the round metal plate.  If you don't have a thread you can simply heat-seal it again.  

Wood:

If you decide to build your lower frame out of wood you have to first find a wooden ring. You have to glue it on your wooden rod, approximately 10 cm high.  As soon as its dry you can take your globe and put in on the rod. Now you can put your round plate (which you use as your lower frame) and the rod with the globe together. Simply cut a round hole in the middle of your round wooden plate and glue the two pieces together. If you like you can paint the wood with metal paint to give it an industrial touch.

3.) Auflage für die Tischplatte befestigen

Nun seid ihr schon so gut wie fertig, ihr müsst nun nur noch die Auflage für die Tischplatte befestigen. Dafür hab ich einfach das Antriebsteil der alten Waschmaschine auf das Rohr geschraubt und es dann damit verschraubt. Egal welches Teil ihr dafür verwendet, verschraubt es einfach mit dem Rohr damit ihr einen kraftschlüssigen Verschluss habt oder verleimt es wieder, wenn ihr Holz verwendet.

4.) Tischplatte auflegen

Als letzten Schritt müsst ihr nun nur mehr die Tischplatte auf euer bereits fertiggebautes Untergestell legen, und schon seid ihr fertig! Damit die Platte besser hält habe ich drei kleine Gummringe genommen die unter die Auflage gegeben habe damit es stabiler hält.

Nun ist euer Tisch fertig, und auch wenn er warscheinlich nicht exakt so aussehen wird wie meiner, ich bin sicher er ist großartig geworden! Falls ihr euch also dazu durchringen könnt euch mit viel Herz und Hirn an dieses DIY zu wagen, ich würd mich sehr über Fotos davon freuen :) 

3.) Make the holding for the table top 

Now your table is almost ready. I simply fixed the part of the old washing maschine to the tube, but no matter which piece you use, just bolt it together with the tube or glue it together with the rod. 

4.) Put the table top on top 

As a last step, take your glass table top and put it on the lower frame. Et voilá, the project is done! I also added some rubber pieces so the table top lays more stable on the other parts of the table.

DIY Murphy Table

Kleinen Platz sinnvoll zu nutzen ist oft nicht so einfach. Meine Wohnung hat 27 m2 und da möchte man natürlich jeden Centimeter bis zum Anschlag ausnutzen. Eine Lösung, die ich für mich bei den Überlegungen zur Einrichtung meiner Wohnung gefunden habe, sind Möbel die man mehrfach nutzen kann, oder, noch besser, einfach verschwinden lassen kann. Ein richtiger Geheimtipp also, der auch noch dazu super einfach zu machen ist und kein großartiges handwerkliches Geschick vorraussetzt. Darf ich euch vorstellen: Der Murphy Table!

Making the most out of a small place is a problem that makes a lot of brains fry. As my apartment is only 27 m2 I wanted to take adventage of every single one of it. It took me a lot of thinking time, but finally I came up with a solution for my little problem: The best way to do it, is to use furniture with multiple features, or, even better, build yourself something that can easly disappear and change into something else. Sounds like magic? Believe me it may looks like it, but it is something you can easly craft yourself. So let me introduce to you: The Murphy Table! 

 Was brauchst du? 

* Tischplatte (beliebige Größe)
* hier: altes Nähmaschinengestell (alternativ: jedes nur denkbare andere Untergestell, der Fantasie sind keine Grenzen gesetzt, es sollte jedoch ca normale Tischhöhe haben, also in etwas 75cm)
* Zwei Werfgehänge; hier: Typ 62, 250x35 mm (alternativ: Scharnier)
* Sturmhaken mit Öse; hier: 120x5,8 mm
* Holzschrauben
* Schrauben + passende Mauerdübel




What you need: 

* table top (optional size)
* old sewing machine stand (alternativ: any other imaginable stand, simply free your mind and get creative, but it should have normal table height which is approx. 75 cm)
* Two ornamental strap hinges (be sure that they are big enough to carry the weight)
* Hook & Eye
* Woodscrews
* Screws + wall dowels 

Wie wirds gemacht? 

1.) Untergestell finden

Für meinen Tisch habe ich als Untergestell einen alten Nähmaschinentisch gefunden. Ich mag die schwarze Eisenoberfläche und die schönen Verzierungen und finde das Teil gibt dem ganzen einfach nochmal einen industriellen Touch. Da solche Gestelle aber leider nicht wie Sand am Meer zu finden sind würde ich euch empfehlen einfach auf Flohmärkten zu schauen, oder auch auf Willhaben oder Ebay, aber auch euer eigener Dachboden könnte so manche Schätze verborgen halten, also macht euch einfach auf die Suche!

Ihr könnt aber natürlich auch jedes andere Teil als Untergestell verwenden, wie gesagt, eurer Fantasie sind hier keine Grenzen gesetzt. Zum Beispiel könntet ihr alte Holzkisten nehmen oder auch selber ein Gestell aus Holz bauen. Wichtig ist nur dass es einen stabilen Stand hat und ca 75 cm hoch ist. Außerdem ist es sehr praktisch wenn das Untergestell leicht wegzuräumen ist (meine Nähmaschine hat zum Glück Rollen das macht das ganze um vieles leichter)

1.) Find a suitable stand 

For my table I used an old sewing machine stand as a lower frame. I'm totally in love with the black surface and the beautiful ornamental decorations, it really gives the whole thing an industrial touch that I absolutely adore. However, these stands are not availabe ten a penny.  I suggest you to search the fleamarket, ebay or your own attic, that's most of the time where all the treasures are hidden. 

You can also use any other imaginable stand for this table, only the sky's the limit ;) For example you can use old wooden boxes or you can build yourself an own stand out of wood. The only important thing is that the lower frame is approx. 75 cm high. It is also pretty useful if you can easily put your stand away (mine has rolls, that makes it really easy)

2.) Tischplatte an der Wand befestigen

Um euren Tisch stabil zu machen, damit er nicht wackelt, und ihr ihn später auch ganz einfach wegklappen könnt, müsst ihr ihn an der Wand befestigen. Dafür stellt ihr einfach euer Untergestell in den Raum und legt eure Platte darauf. Am hinteren Teil wo die Tischplatte an die Wand anstößt wird sie dann sicher befestigt. Dazu nehmt ihr eure zwei Werfgehänge, messt die Mitte der Tischplatte aus, und geht dann nochmal, je einmal nach links und einmal nach rechts, ein Viertel der Tischlänge zurück. Nun haltet ihr die Werfgehänge an der gewünschten Stelle am Tisch an markiert durch die Löcher wo ihr später in die Wand bohren müsst. Nehmt nun ein paar Holzschrauben und befestigt die Scharniere an eurer Tischplatte.

Als nächsten Schritt müsst ihr die Löcher in die Wand bohren. Ich hab dazu eine Schlagbohrmaschine verwendet damit ich auch ordentlich in die Mauer komme. Bitte passt unbedingt auf dass hinter eurer Wand keine Wasser- oder Stromleitungen verlegt sind, oder die Wand möglicherweise zu dünn ist. Auch bei Kaminen müsst ihr aufpassen, die dürft ihr nämlich im Regelfall überhaupt nicht anbohren.

Sobald ihr die Löcher gebohrt habt, gebt ihr die Mauerdübel hinein und könnt nun eure Werfgehänge auch an der Wand befestigen. Wichtig dabei ist dass die Mauerdübel und die Schrauben den gleichen Durchmesser haben damit am Ende eine feste Verbindung entsteht.

Nun müsste eure Tischplatte bereits sicher mit der Wand verbunden sein, nicht mehr wackeln und ordentlich auch dem Untergestell aufliegen.

2.) Secure the table top onto the wall 

To make sure that your table will not totter and has a secure stand, so you can easily fold it away afterwards, you need to fix it to the wall. Therefore you just have to put your table top on your lower frame, on the side where the plate touches the wall you are going to drill the holes. Simply take your ornamental strap hinges, measure the middle of your table width and go one quarter of the whole width back, one time to the right, one time to the left. Hold your hinges onto these marks and mark where you'll drill the wholes into your wall later. Now take a few woodscrews and fix the hinges onto the table. 

As a next step you have to drill the holes into the wall. I used a hammer drill to do it. Please make sure that there are no water pipes or power supply lines in this part of the wall, or if the wall is maybe not thick enough to carry the weight. Furthermore don't drill if there's a chimney in the wall!

As soon as your holes are in the wall, put the wall dowels in and fix your hinges onto it. The important thing is that the screws and the dowels are the same diameter, otherwise your connection won't be safe. 

Now your table top is securely fixed to the wall, it won't totter anymore and you can easily fold it away.

3.) Sturmhaken und Öse befestigen 

Damit euer Tisch beim Hinaufklappen auch oben bleibt müsst ihr als nächsten Schritt den Sturmhaken und die dazugehörige Öse montieren.  

Zuerst befestigt ihr die Öse auf der Unterseite der Tischplatte. Einfach auf der vorderen Kante, auf der Unterseite, in der Mitte mit zwei Schrauben anschrauben. Danach klappt ihr die Platte nach oben, nehmt den Sturmhaken, hakt ihn in die Öse ein und haltet ihn so an die Wand dass später die Verbindung auch ordentlich hält. Makiert wieder durch die Löcher wo ihr später bohren müsst. Klappt nun die Platte wieder nach unten und befestigt den Sturmhaken an der gewünschten Stelle.

3.) Fasten the hook onto the wall and the eye onto the table

So that your table top will stay on the wall when you fold it away you have to fasten the hook to the wall, and the eye to the underside of your table as a next step. 

First you have to fix the eye to the underside. Just measure the middle of the front side of the underside of the table and secure it with two screws. Now fold the plate to the wall, take the hook, hitch it to the eye and mark where you have to drill the wholes in the wall. Fold your plate away again, and fix the hook on the marked spot.  

 4.) Viel Freude damit!

Ja ihr seht, so einfach geht das! In nur wenigen Schritten habt ihr euer perfektes Zauberkunststück gebaut. Nun könnt ihr immer, wenn ihr wieder einmal etwas mehr Platz in eurer Wohnung braucht, zum Beispiel für Parties oder wenn Freunde bei euch übernachten, euren Essplatz ganz einfach an die Wand hängen. 

Der Tisch ist nicht nur super einfach und praktisch sondern die Unterseite könnt ihr auch noch super als dekoratives Bild in euren Wohnraum einpassen. Meine ist zwar noch unbemalt aber ich werde sie bald etwas aufschmücken.

4.) I hope you enjoy it! 

As you can see, it's really as simple as I told you. A small space hasn't to seem small too, make the most out of it and be happy with it! Now you are prepared for the next time you need a little more space for a party or a sleepover.

You can also decorate the underside of your table and you'll have a beautiful picture on the wall. I haven't had the time to paint mine yet, but I'm sure I will do it as soon as possible! :)
